Over 10 000 Visitors Get Up Close

Up Close, The River Clyde Homes exhibition, which opened in Greenock's Oak Mall at the end of May, has now attracted a staggering 10,000 visitors. That's 12.5% of the Inverclyde population.

The exhibition profiles the past, present and future of social housing in Inverclyde and recognises River Clyde Homes' six Real Community Heroes.

Roy Steel, chair of River Clyde Homes, said: "We are over the moon that attendances at the exhibition have reached this landmark figure. The key aim of Up Close is to engage with tenants and the local community and the footfall figures certainly seem to suggest this is happening.

"We have had really positive feedback from everyone attending and, together with the wealth of material people are uploading to the interactive website, the exhibition is really getting people talking about the past, present and future of Inverclyde. We know of one woman who has now visited four times.”

Visitors are telling us what they think of the exhibition via the comments box.  Some of these include: 'Very interesting. Brings back a lot of memories.'

'It was great fun to try and guess where the old streets once stood.'

'The plans for the future developments are very exciting. The houses look fantastic!'

The exhibition includes video footage, photographs, memories, artefacts and material from school pupils on how past generations lived. It will run in Greenock's Oak Mall until Thursday 6 August and is open each Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Admission is free.

The River Clyde Homes 'Up Close' campaign is supported by Riverside Inverclyde, Wates Living Space, Connaught Partnerships, Lovell, Morris & Spottiswood in association with Impact Arts, Turner & Townsend, SFHA, Hypostyle Architects, Anderson Bell Christie and the Greenock Telegraph.
