Search For A Hero Continues

The search for Inverclyde's Real Community Heroes is on – and there's still time for you to nominate.

Inverclyde elderly campaigner, Nell McFadden, will join the judging panel and knows exactly what she is looking for.

She said: "This is about ordinary people who have gone that extra mile within their community.

"They can be recognised for anything; from being kind to a neighbour to setting up a community group. People don't realise the massive difference they can make to others by doing small things.

"This is about people who have made the quality of life better in Inverclyde. There are a lot of caring, talented people out there in our community. "

The campaign aims to find six extraordinary people from the 16,000 residents living in River Clyde Homes houses.

People can be nominated for volunteering, for being involved in community groups or for being an all round good Samaritan. Nell, 81, who is chairwoman of Inverclyde Elderly Forum, added: "I think it's fantastic River Clyde Homes has set up this campaign to recognise people who do so much work within their communities.

"It will help raise awareness of how much people do. I'm delighted to be involved."

The six heroes chosen will become the faces of the "Up Close" campaign, backed by the Greenock Telegraph, and will secure £500 funding for an Inverclyde community initiative of their choice.

After the heroes have been chosen, RCH will host an exhibition focusing on how Inverclyde people lived in the past and what they will want life to be like in the future.

Nomination forms are available from the Greencok Telegraph office, RCH neighbourhood teams, local libraries, post offices, RCH offices and this site
