River Clyde Homes’ innovative public engagement initiative, Up Close, is moving to Port Glasgow Town Hall which will house the acclaimed Up Close exhibition.
The aim of Up Close, which was launched earlier this year, is to engage tenants and the wider public in the initiatives being undertaken by the housing association. In May it unveiled its six Real Community Heroes. These were people who live in RCH homes were who were recognised as representing the spirit of Inverclyde and as having a positive impact on the community where they live.
This was quickly followed by the Up Close exhibition which reflected on the history of social housing in Inverclyde and showcased the regeneration projects being undertaken currently. The exhibition was a huge success, attracting over 17,000 visitors and attracted contributions of photographs and memories.
Lynne Carr, chief executive of River Clyde Homes, says: “When the exhibition closed we received numerous calls and e-mails from members of the public who had missed the exhibition in the Oak Mall. We decided that there was an opportunity to take a slightly scaled down version of the exhibition to Port Glasgow Town Hall where people can have the opportunity to look at the history of housing in the area and to see our ambitious plans for the regeneration of Woodhall and the East End of Greenock.”
The exhibition will be open Mon – Fri, 11am – 4pm and is situated on the second floor foyer of the Town Hall.
Lynne continued: “I hope people will take the opportunity to visit the exhibition and continue to comment on our plans for the future. Up Close has been a terrific way of engaging with the communities of Inverclyde and the feedback we have received is invaluable.” She added: “I would like to thank Inverclyde Council for their support in taking Up Close to Port Glasgow and the hall staff for their time and co-operation.”
