South West Greenock

The development in the South West of Greenock will be undertaken over three sites at

  • Cumberland Road/ Cumberland Walk
  • Westmorland Road/ Stafford Road
  • Nairn Road (former Springfield school site)

A feasibility study for the housing reprovisioning, in conjunction with the other studies underway in this area, was undertaken by FBN Architects in consultation with the local community.

The Scottish Government has approved funding of almost £7.5m for River Clyde Homes’ (RCH) plans to build 114 rented and 12 shared equity properties in South West Greenock.

In a competitive tendering process Cruden Building and Renewals Limited (CBRL) was appointed to undertake the project. Works have begun on-site in and should be completed by Summer 2013.

In terms of the quality of the build, the two and three bedroom homes are built around paved courtyards and are super thermally efficient to a standard whereby tenants should have fuel costs in the region of only £1 per day.

The courtyards were warmly welcomed by the tenants who were involved in the detailed design process and who will occupy the blocks as safe areas for children to play and also for ease of overlooking their vehicles. In terms of safety, the design of parking courtyards is similar to that at the Woodhall development and was the preferred and safest design solution from the Council’s roads’ engineers.
