Money raised from the recent children’s clothing drive at the Broomhill Community Hub in Greenock, organised by River Clyde Homes has been donated to two local schools.

The sale raised £215 and River Clyde Homes matched this amount, and with a further additional donation, the total was £500. This will be distributed between two local primary schools, Whinhill and St Patrick’s.

Claire Coggins is Principal Teacher at St Patrick’s (pic left) said: “Our thanks go to the Broomhill community and River Clyde Homes for raising such a considerable sum of money. We’re planning to put the donation towards trips for the pupils in the next school year.

Elizabeth Ruddy, Head Teacher at Whinhill Primary (pic below), echoed these comments, adding: “This kind of community activity is invaluable and we too will be using the money for school trips and activities for our pupils.”

The community event, organised by the River Clyde Homes’ Broomhilll Team, relied on generous donations of new and ‘gently worn’ children’s clothing and shoes from local people.

Sandra McLeod, Executive Director of Customer Services at River Clyde Homes said: “This community event was a great example of our commitment not just to provide housing but also to work towards our vision of ‘improving lives and places. Broomhill is a vibrant neighbourhood and we’re delighted to have raised this amount of money for local schools. My thanks go to staff for organising the event and to everyone from the community who attended.”
