Important Child Benefit Reminder for Parents of 16 to 19 Year Olds

Parents receiving Child Benefit for a 16 to 19-year-old are reminded to extend their claim by 31 August. This is crucial to ensure payments continue if your child remains in approved education or training. If the claim isn't extended, payments will automatically stop on 31 August (on or after their 16th birthday).

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will be sending out reminders to affected parents between May and July. To continue receiving your Child Benefit, you'll need to confirm online if your teenager is staying in full-time education or approved training after finishing their GCSEs.

Last year, 870,000 parents successfully extended their Child Benefit claims, with most doing so online. Extending your claim via the HMRC app or their digital service is the quickest and easiest way to guarantee your payments.

Parents can extend their claim quickly and easily via the HMRC app or online on GOV.UK. The letters also contain a handy QR code which takes parents straight to the digital service on GOV.UK.
