Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS)

Some electricty meters are becoming obsolete

RTS Meter

3 February 2025

River Clyde Homes would like to make customers aware of an upcoming change that could affect your heating and hot water supply after June 2025.

Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is due to be shut down UK wide by June 2025, which will impact the heating of around 250,000 Scottish Households. This is because the equipment that produces the signal for your meter can no longer be satisfactorily maintained.

  • The RTS switch-off may cause customers to lose access to their heating and hot water including your off-peak heating.

Your electricity supplier will contact you to arrange an appointment to upgrade your existing meter. If they have not already been in touch we recommend contacting them to arrange this as soon as possible.

Households most likely to be affected are those which:

⚡ - Use mains electric heating (e.g storage heaters)

🔦 - Don’t have a smart meter

⏰ - Have an energy tariff offering cheaper electricity at certain times of day (eg Eco 10, Total Heat Total Control, Heatwise, etc.)

We have issued letters to tenants who may be impacted by these changes.

Please note this is not a service that RCH can provide and must be completed by your provider.
