Bonfires created from piles of indiscriminately gathered rubbish and waste, compound the obvious fire risks with serious environmental damage.

These unsanctioned fires are often fuelled by materials like plastics, painted furniture, and old tyres, which, when burned, emit plumes of toxic dark smoke. This smoke releases harmful pollutants, including particulate matter and carcinogenic compounds, severely worsening air quality and posing a direct health risk to residents.

The debris left behind, alongside the damaged earth and public amenity damage, constitutes a significant statutory nuisance and a considerable cost for the subsequent clean-up operations.
